... for you are all one in Christ Jesus - Galatians 3:28
‘There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.’ (Galatians 3:28)
Our motto verse for 2021 shows what is important in terms of our relationship to God and to each other: while recognising social, racial, gender, age and other differences and distinctions, at CBC we want to focus on what unites us: our faith in Jesus and our dependence on his grace, mercy, forgiveness and empowering.
As followers of Jesus we are united because we have travelled the same route to God our heavenly Father: through faith in Jesus. There is no other way. Through this faith we are made ‘one in Christ’ – we have all become one collective whole, the one body of Christ. The only valid distinctions are our function in the Body of Christ. This year we are encouraged to reflect on this and the fulfilment of our specific role within CBC.
At CBC we describe ourselves as being a temple of odd-shaped living stones being built together for worship of, and witness to, Jesus. We are all part of this. Our 2021 motto verse reminds us that whatever our distinctions of race, class, gender, etc, however ‘odd-shaped’ you and I might be doesn’t matter. What is important is that through faith in Jesus we are part of the one entity that is CBC and that we each need to fulfil our specific role to enable that one entity to function. At CBC, may we put aside our race/social/gender differences, be united in Christ and fulfil our function so that, together, CBC can be that one body of Christ working together to advance Christ’s kingdom in Crayford and beyond.
